Gunny

Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue would like to introduce you to Gunny!

Gunny came to Lucky Orphans in the fall of 2024 with the hope of becoming one of the first horses in our new adoption program. The plan was to retrain him, find him the right person, and give him a fresh start in a new home. However, upon arrival, veterinarians discovered he had a broken coffin bone. Instead of beginning retraining, Gunny began a long period of stall rest and careful rehabilitation.

What could have been a discouraging turn of events has instead revealed the true depth of Gunny’s character. Gentle, patient, and eager to connect, he quickly won the hearts of staff, volunteers, and clients alike. Though unable to be ridden for now, Gunny has embraced a different role: that of a healing presence. He participates in wellness programs such as Reiki, Bowen therapy, and meditation sessions, where his calm energy helps people find balance and peace.

Gunny reminds us that every horse has purpose, even if their path looks different than we originally imagined. His journey is no longer about leaving Lucky Orphans, but about enriching the lives of those who come here to heal. Whether quietly soaking up attention in his stall or offering a soft nuzzle during a meditation circle, Gunny embodies the sanctuary’s mission of “People Helping Horses Heal People.”Annie is an unregistered Thoroughbred mare who was born in 1996. She arrived at LOHR in 2008.
