“Pagan Thunder” aka Thunder

Registered Name: Pagan Thunder (NY)
Thoroughbred | Dark Bay/Brown | Gelding
Foaled June 6, 2003
Thunder Puddles – Twice Chosen

Born in New York in 2003, Pagan Thunder was the first foal out of his dam. From the very beginning, his path came with challenges. Born club-footed and cow-hocked, his conformation made a traditional racing career unlikely, and he never made a start on the track.

For many horses, early physical differences can determine their fate. For Pagan Thunder, someone chose differently.

He was saved through the compassion and advocacy of John Hettinger, who believed that a horse’s value is not measured in perfection or performance, but in life itself. That belief altered his future.

Despite his slow beginning, Pagan Thunder has grown into something extraordinary.

Within his Thoroughbred paddock, he is the steady presence — the quiet guardian. He watches over his herd mates with calm authority, often positioning himself between them and uncertainty. Thoughtful and observant, he has become a grounding force for the other Thoroughbreds in his field.

The colt who once stood at a disadvantage now stands as a protector.

His life is a lasting tribute to the simple but powerful truth that every life has value. Not just the fast ones. Not just the flawless ones. Every single one.

At Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, Pagan Thunder is protected, respected, and home — and in his own way, he protects in return.
