Whiskey’s Cuervo
aka “Cuervo”
Cuervo’s story is one of resilience, leadership, and a spirit that has been strong from the very beginning. In 2008, Cuervo arrived at Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue alongside his mother, Whiskey, and his herd mates Gypsy, Charisma, and Charisma’s daughter, Envy. They came from a rodeo breeding facility, where Cuervo had been bred to become a bucking horse. He was just 3 weeks old. Even at that young age, Cuervo was already facing significant challenges. When he arrived, he was underweight, covered in lice, and suffering from maggots beneath his skin—conditions no foal should ever endure. His recovery required immediate care, careful management, and a commitment to helping him grow strong both physically and emotionally. And he did.
Today, Cuervo is a brave and vibrant horse, known for his striking coloring and even bigger personality. He is incredibly friendly, naturally drawn to people, and always ready to engage. Within his herd, Cuervo stepped confidently into his role as leader —the one others look to, steady and aware, with just enough charm to earn his reputation as a bit of a ladies’ man. Cuervo is also an important member of our therapy team. His curiosity, energy, and willingness to connect make him a powerful partner in sessions, helping people feel seen, engaged, and supported.
He even has a unique favorite—Cuervo loves music. Whether it’s playing softly during a session or drifting through the barn, he responds with calm interest, adding another layer to the connection he creates with those around him.
As he has aged, Cuervo has developed osteoporosis in his legs, requiring additional care and support to keep him comfortable and sound. It’s part of his journey now— and one we are committed to supporting every step of the way.
Cuervo’s life began with challenges no foal should face, but he never let them define him. Instead, he grew into a confident, connected, and purposeful horse who gives back every day. By supporting Cuervo, you are helping ensure he continues to thrive with the care he needs—while honoring everything he has overcome and everything he continues to give.
From a fragile beginning at just weeks old to a strong and steady leader— Cuervo is proof that resilience can shape something truly remarkable.
