Fearless Kitten
Fearless Kitten, a New York–bred Thoroughbred, raced nine times with two wins, two seconds, and a third, earning just over $37,000. In July 2024, her path took a heartbreaking turn when she was rescued by Lucky Orphans, working with the NYS Police and Columbia County DA, during a 13-horse cruelty case. Emaciated, locked in a dark stall with no water, and nursing her colt, Kitten could easily have grown fearful or aggressive. Instead, she met her rescuers with trust, stepped quietly onto the trailer, and showed remarkable patience with every new hand who cared for her.
After her owner forfeited rights that fall, her colt found a training home while Kitten joined the Lucky Orphans herd. True to her name, she has faced every challenge with grace and courage. She is now a beloved therapy partner, especially for children and clients on the autism spectrum, offering a calm, safe presence for grooming, leading, or simply quiet companionship. One of her most touching bonds is with Maya, a young client who lights up in Kitten’s company—reminding everyone how horses heal people as much as people heal horses.
Beyond her work with people, Kitten has also stepped into the role of guardian for her blind pasture mate, Zoe, often standing watch as Zoe rests. She embodies patience, kindness, and forgiveness, proving that even after suffering, healing and trust are possible.
